We totally love our Marathons, but we have an Onyx coloured one, and the black sides bleached out in the sun within the first year, so it’s less attractive, but I don’t really care that much.

we purchased this seat from babies r us after much research hassle and one mistaken purchase (the salesman insisted the britax frontier was appropriate for our 15 month old because he’s at the 25 lb mark–the company says he needs to also be 2 years old for bone density related safety reasons). we got the “platinum” fabric which amazon doesn’t seem to carry. we haven’t used it for very long, but it was extremely easy to install rear facing with the latch system in our 2009 subaru forester. the one hassle was retrieving the latch connectors from inside/under the seat cavity but that’s a minor point. i’ve no idea how difficult this would be to install without latch, and i have no desire to find out. getting the boy in and out of the seat is very easy (especially compared to the safety 1st travel system seat he started out on) and it reclines enough for him to be comfortable. it doesn’t recline as much as his old infant seat though and i don’t know if he would have been as comfortable in it when he was even tinier.

we didn’t really compare sizes too much, so i don’t know if this is a given for this kind of convertible seat, but this seat takes up quite a bit of space in the rear of midsized sedans and suv’s. if you install it in the middle two adults might be able to squeeze in on either side but they’ll both be uncomfortable. we ended up putting it behind the front passenger. even with a little room between the seat and the car seat the front passenger has enough leg room. one adult can sit comfortably behind the driver and another might be able to sit in the middle seat, but not if they’re large and certainly not for more than short trips. i’ve no idea if shifting to forward facing (which we’ll do when he turns 2) will help or further squeeze rear seat space.

we did compare the padding of all the seats at the store and the britax seats seemed to us to be uniformly softer and better padded than the other brands.

so far our son likes the seat. we considered the boulevard but the side view blocking issue seemed all the more likely to be an issue for us when we saw the seat in person, and the salesman did say that they’d heard from some customers that active babies didn’t care for the blocked view.

i have given the seat a 4 star rating because we really haven’t used it long enough (nor on long drives) to be able to say that it is indeed an amazing seat.

I purchased the Marathon for my 9 month old son. He is still able to use his Graco SnugRide, but since he is 29″, he is nearing the end of the height max. For now, we have the Marathon rear-facing in one car and the SnugRide in the other. He has always been fairly happy in the car seat, but he seems MUCH more comfortable in the Marathon. The straps and buckles are very high-quality, and the seat itself is just nice. Installation using LATCH was very easily done and it fits nicely in the middle seat of our older Subaru Outback. The only significant difference in size compared to the SnugRide is the height of the seat. It doesn’t obstruct the rear-view mirror view, but it is a couple inches taller than the infant seat. When researching convertible seats, I was concerned with how it would fit in our fairly small cars (we also have a Corolla). Two adults can still sit comfortably in the back seat on either side of the Marathon, but it is slightly difficult to buckle the seat belts for the passengers. Other than that, it works out well.

I would absoultely purchase the Marathon again, based on safety, comfort, and how it fits in our cars. Also, the Cowmooflage is seriously very cute

Well, my husband, 21 month old son, and I were just rear ended HARD a few minutes ago….and the seat performed perfectly…not only was my son well protected and cushioned from the impact, but he even seemed a little bored…not a peep. Great seat if you want safety! It’s also very comfortable, our son loved it from day one. He’s taller than most babies his age, but he’s been in it from 12 months old to almost 2 years old now and he’s still fitting fine. He’s about he size of a three year old though, so it may not last us more than another year or two! It’s belt is naturally a little tight, but can be easily loosened, and seems to be fine with our son.

What it comes down to, I would recommend this seat to any child who isn’t overly picky about seat belts. It’s very soft, and comfy and more importantly, it stands up to impact!

This seat was easy to install, has wide straps, and my baby is very comfortable in it. I love the soft material and the fact that the straps have velcro on them to hold them back when strapping baby in or out. I looked at a lot of car seats and am so happy we bought this one.
